Eco Ramadan Challenge
Ramadan is not only a month for fasting and prayers, it is a month of retrospection. It is a month to assess our year, our actions and try to self-improve – be it spiritually, mentally, physically or emotionally. This past Ramadan, EnviroMuslims set out to engage with the Muslim community around the impacts our actions have on the planet and its finite resources, and to examine alternative actions that would reduce our environmental footprint thus, reducing our collective burden on Planet Earth.
EnviroMuslims introduced a 30 day challenge during the month of Ramadan to make changes in our habits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This challenge was a call for action, suggesting one
environment-friendly action per day, to encourage those observing Ramadan to make simple, practical and doable changes in their lifestyles, households or habits, so as to conserve energy and water, reduce waste, and to make more sustainable choices on transportation and food.
We were blown away with the support and participation of the Muslim community, and look forward to continuing to provide engaging and interactive programs. Thank you to everyone who participated in the challenge by sharing photos of themselves in action, and a special thank you to the Alberta Muslim Public Affairs Council for featuring us in their Muslims of Canada series, and Muslim Link for including an interview on the Challenge on their website.
